Collège Boréal, CEWIL Canada, NSS Canada and Dynamic Earth are thrilled to be partnering to launch “Projet MOSS” this winter in Sudbury, ON.

The Miner Operated Survey System (MOSS) is an underground surveying software that supports a wide range of Leica robotic total stations. MOSS integrates mine design specifications and drawings when completing mark-ups, and provides real-time information for miners, engineers, and geologists.

For years, Collège Boréal has trained students using surveying equipment from area mines. Thanks to this project funded in part by the Government of Canada’s Innovative Work-Integrated Learning program and CEWIL Canada’s iHub and NSS Canada, Collège Boréal now has access to state-of-the-art surveying equipment and technology for hands on learning in the underground mine at Dynamic Earth. Students from the Construction engineering technology – civil and mining will perform day to-day tasks such as Production Surveys, Development Surveys, and Mine Planning using MOSS. Collège Boréal’s graduate and NSS Canada’s very own Technical Support Manager, Francis Nepveu will be leading this project along with other NSS staff. Their team will train, introduce, and demonstrate the new equipment in an underground setting.

“NSS Canada is excited to expand into the education system to provide new technology for students and future workers. Our goal is to ensure students can come into the workforce better prepared for the market and industry. We are committed to being at the forefront of mining and technology, while providing students with the tools needed to be successful once they leave the classroom.” – Bruno Lalonde, President, NSS Canada

“Collège Boréal is proud to be training the next generation of highly skilled workers in the mining industry. Partnerships such as this one put students first by giving them firsthand technical knowledge and valuable experience prior to entering the workplace.’’ – Lyne Michaud, Vice President of Academics, Collège Boréal

“All of us at Dynamic Earth are proud of our longstanding relationships with local businesses and post-secondary intuitions. Dynamic Earth is not only a tourism location, but also an educational center, and a hub for innovation. We are ecstatic to partner with Collège Boréal, CEWIL Canada, and NSS Canada to launch Projet MOSS.”
– Jennifer Beaudry, Senior Program Manager at Dynamic Earth

“By offering innovative WIL opportunities at our institutions across Canada, we continue to see growth in students’ personal and professional competencies. The skills and competencies gained through these experiences serve to support students as they transition to the workplace, entrepreneurial endeavors, or future studies.”
– Charlene Marion, Director WIL at CEWIL Canada
